THE LOOK:

GANT RUGGER PRE-FALL 2011

New Haven Math Club by Christopher Bastin for Gant Rugger/ GQ

Never pick on a Mathlete, ever again. High School culture has taught you that a Mathlete is a weakling you could pummel for extra lunch money (and this could happen elsewhere outside the US), but mind you, these kids you pummel, or used to in our case, are now hailed as the stylish dudes behind Christopher Bastin's Pre-Fall 2011 collection for Gant Rugger.

Inspired by 60s Mathletes, the looks are crisp and clean but never prissy and prim. Navy trousers and navy blazers are basics worth your stock, while brown printed and tennis sweaters provide you some layering. A two-toned wind breaker is a favorite and topped over a plaid shirt looks exactly out of the preppy late 60s, and it's chic. There are more pieces from the collection like plain tees with the tiniest of prints on them and cool striped button downs that are great transition pieces from Spring to Fall.

True to Gant fashion, the collection is stripped off gimmicky things and therefore allows for a wearable collection and also fit for the test of time. I am loving every piece I am seeing, especially that it's casual and smart. Hopefully, there'll be more looks out of this collection cause I'd definitely want to see more. Congratulations Bastin for this, it's amazing. Not to mention genius!

THE WEEKEND:

We're fast-approaching Fall, gents and for this weekend's shortlist, THE EDGE brings you some great transitional stuff to ponder on.

Without further a do, welcome to this weekend's awesome shortlist of things to love now (and forever).

+ EVER SAW CHIC BEFORE?
Clement Chabernaud doing some great modeling for H&M's chicest collection to date
I slapped myself when I saw what H&M has to offer this fall. It's that chic. From a two-toned sports coat paired with plum trousers to a handsome high-collared parka to awesome khaki trousers...The options are endless and what's great is that they all are the chicest pieces your bucks could buy. While the great stuff are expensive, H&M makes sure that there's little pain in the spending and more joy in the wearing. Highly-recommended folks, this fall, head down to H&M, go crazy over their really cool pieces and see where these combinations could get you. To H&M, you have done your chicest collection to date and this has to be my favorite.

+ THE LEATHER JACKET

Vanson + Junya Watanabe Comme des Garcons eYe leather jacket @ HighSnobiety
There are rules to buying the "perfect" leather jacket and one of those rules is to avoid the flashy, zippery kind. But, really, if this collaboration presents itself to you and you have all the money in the world to buy it, would you follow rules or break them? I'd definitely break them. This Vanson and Junya Watanabe Comme des Garcons eYe leather jacket is a beaut. Made out of the highest quality leather, it's an iconic design that despite naysayers, will probably be your favorite leather jacket. Amen? Amen!

+ OLDIES but definitely GOODIES

1940s Monobloco Rolex and more to be auctioned @ A Continuous Lean
Rolexes are surely treasures. But vintage Rolexes will haunt your dreams. Check out Sotheby's, Christie's and Antiquorum for those rare Daytonas, Pan Am pilots' GMT models from the 50s-60s, and more. While I'm no watch enthusiast, I appreciate a valuable timepiece when I see one and these vintage pieces are worth the bucks. Especially now that they've gone through some fine wearing, it's awfully more charming (probably less valuable) but as ACL puts it, it's different in our eyes.

+ IMPOSSIBLY COOL
Let's Get Lost, the jazz kid sings. Chet Baker @ The Impossible Cool
It's been long overdue. Yes, The Impossible Cool is a tumblr you'd dream of curating. Kudos to its owner for putting together the chicest, most legendary and stylish people of decades past and just giving us of the now some cool inspiration. From Chet Baker to Twiggy to Robert Redford, everyone's here folks and it's about time you follow them.

THE READER:

A PRADA ITCH
GOODIES magazine

Would you wear something like this? Sonny's Photos

I have been troubled by the latest collection Prada churned out for menswear. The subdued colors, the glittery sweaters and the handsome shoes are only a few of the confusing yet intriguing pieces available soon for Fall 2011. And knowing that this is Prada--where things are as unexpected and chic as could get, it's impossible to just let the collection pass without my take on it.
Go and check out my column for a read. After that venture out to the rest of the publication and you'll surely be interested.

THE STORY:

GET SOME COLOR
CAM GIGANDET for GQ May 2011

Cam Gigandet in Prada sweater and Acne chinos
shot by Cedric Buchet
While Cam Gigandet does reclining in Mexico city some justice, the clothes are doing the city some justice as well. Super trend of the season (for both men and women) is color blocking and in this story shot by the talented Mr. Cedric Buchet, Cam Gigandet's calm, handsome energy balances well with the lively hues of both city and the clothes.

It's a beautiful story, incredibly simple but styled to perfection I for one am a fan of it. Of the trend, however, it's a different story. Hmmm...Maybe I should start lightening up. I've been in neutral, fall mode for the past months (maybe cause I've fallen in love with the collections of the next season) and probably smiling at this trend could do me good...Just maybe. Then again, it doesn't take anything away from the handsome story. Bravo GQ.

THE BUND
MATHIAS LAURIDSEN

Mathias Lauridsen photographed by Hasse Nielsen

Once was models.com's number one model, Mathias Lauridsen is now a certified icon in the modeling industry. Looking as chiseled as ever (it is his signature anyway, that perfect face structure), Lauridsen goes all dark and edgy for The Bund magazine's Stand Still style pages. The clothes are simple but the styling leaves an impact and Lauridsen makes it a more amazing story.

THE WEEKEND:

This weekend, we're promoting some cool fun for all of you. Besides, every weekend should be the opportunity to loosen up those ties, kick back and (not really relax but) have some fun!

Here's this weekend's shortlist of things so cool, it'll last you more than this weekend.

+ TIE-ON STYLE
Kanye West wearing Burkman Bros Bracelets via ValetMag

Put on some weight, well, light weight with these Burkman Bros Bracelets made perfectly out of waxed cotton and ready for the hotter days to come. The tribal feel meets surfer dude vibe these tie-ons present make for such interesting stylish additions to outfits, as we see on Kanye West (rocking his bracelets on Coachella) plus it adds doses of awesome to your otherwise plain looks. Start tying one now!

+ PAINTING CULTURE

Cindy biking too close to the edge while filming the Spanish moss on Baldhead island, 2011 by Daniel Peddle
Daniel Peddle, a casting director now turned painter extraordinaire opened his exhibition of fairly impressionistic and beautiful works for the public at New York's NPCAC entitled The Undertow. Its opening last May 5 was crowded with the fashion industry's most interesting people: Philip Lim, Tao Okamoto, Hanne Gaby Odiele and Anita Bitton as only some of the big names present. We could all use some painting culture like the good old days and I'm happy Peddle's got great talent. Check it out for yourself this weekend.

+ ESQUIRE 2.0

The new British Esquire

British Esquire presents its new look and content: Esquire version 2.0.To hit newsstands this week, the Kelly Brook cover will definitely catch your attention (right?). Aside from the vamped up colors and the tighter editing on their pages (that sort of remind me of American GQ), they boast new columns and a "dream team" of writers. Here's to enjoying more of British Esquire and definitely living a more stylish life.

+ L.O.V.E. by ONRA

You know pretty well that I'm no music blogger, so throwing all the references for and of Onra's amazing track would be an impossible feat. But I've been a fan of the man since last year and have never been disappointed. His cool beats and awesome grooves are classy, sophisticated and far from what mainstream party beats produce. His latest demo, L.O.V.E. has been on the loop for days  and I couldn't wait for local clubs to start playing Onra tracks.

ROGUE May 2011
TERESA HERRERA

Really? The world's about to end? With you (dear ROGUE) looking this good, I don't think so.

Dear ROGUE,
You know you're a swell magazine, you know it. This is great, not my favorite, but it's pretty different which makes me want to buy it now (if it's out). Teresa Herrera looks great with fiery straight hair and whatever dress that is, reminds me of Edith Hamilton and lots of those Greek Goddesses. I also love your headlines "ROGUE's close encounter with Teresa Herrera..."'s got to be the coolest, smartest headline I've read.
I do have one thing to say though that I don't find as great...
"ROGUE" is too centered. I understand it would probably mess up the fonts if you make it fit the entire cover, but I'm also guessing the sizes of your magazine wouldn't change for this cover right? It's not bad, but it's a pet peeve of mine when magazine titles don't maximize their spaces UNLESS it's intentional (like W or BON)
But as always, ROGUE is my love and to me, whatever they do is always brilliant, classy, handsome and high-quality.
Now don't be too pessimistic though...With a magazine this good, I don't think God would put the world to an end...It's too damn good, even he of omnipotence and omniscience would want to see the rest of your issues.
